Arashiyama Hanatouro
The autumn foliage season has just passed though, the Arashiyama Hanatouro (Light and Blossoms Pathway) held every year started today~ This illumination event is held at the Arashiyama every year, from the mid to late December, usually lasts for 10 days. In the Arashiyama area, pathways are decorated with lanterns and some flower arrangement pieces. Also, the Bamboo Forest Walkways and the Togetsukyo Bridge area are illuminated. The illumination starts at 17:00 until 20:30.
Before going for the illumination, I went to a famous tofu restaurant named “嵯峨とうふ 稲(Saga Tofu Ine)” at the Arashiyama to have a tofu menu~ That restaurant is famous for their bean curd and tofu ice-cream. So besides dining, many people just have a light snack with the tofu ice-cream, or just buy the bean curd pack. While waiting for the seat, I had that ice-cream as an appetizer. A light tofu taste, so you won’t feel too sweet or too heavy. Afterwards, it’s the turn of the main course. Among the 5, 6 kinds of the menu set, I chose the “野宮御膳 (Nomiya Set)”:
野宮御膳 (Nomiya Set)：
❧Bean curd in a bucket
❧Fried tofu fritter with Japanese mustard spinach
❧Soy milk “chawanmushi” (steamed in a tea bowl)
❧Tofu in a hot pot
❧Sesame tofu
❧Warabimochi (bracken starch with sweet toasted soy bean flour)
❧Soup, rice and pickles
It’s an all-tofu meal, but each had very different tastes and all were so good. Especially the bean curd, it was so smooth. No wonder it is one of the best recommended dish of that restaurant. All tofu lover should not miss~
After the illumination started, I went to the Bamboo Forest at first. There were usual lights, but also some blue lights. The usual low profile green Bamboo Forest had become glittering golden, it’s stunning. But personally, I loved the fusion with blue light more. It looked so cool! For the Togetsukyo Bridge area, the mountains there were illuminated with purple light. The nature with mountain and river had become glamorous! If you want to experience an unusual Arashiyama, this should be a good chance~
