Click-clack ♪ What if having a stroll with kimono at Kyoto? ~Gion~

2014/01/14

The cold weather continues every day… Since Kyoto is a basin, the cold air all sinks and accumulates at the bottom part, the chill is a kind like spreading through your whole body. However, when you take a deep breath, the refreshing winter air makes you feel the freshness of the air.

Alright, today let’s have a traditional Japanese topic for the blog♪
When you come to visit Kyoto, have you ever notice that there are so many people wearing kimono walking on the streets?
That is because there are many kimono rental shops in Kyoto!
And a few days ago, I had a stroll in the Gion area with kimono rental.

The kimono rental shop I went called “Yumeyakata”. The price of kimono rental can vary a lot depends on shop. The kimono rental of Yumeyakata is only 2,500 JP yen! Nice to your budget ♪
Among so many designs, it is quite fun to make a choice. Should I pick the vivid glamorous style? Or the simple mature style? The staff also joined and gave advice, and finally I picked one with retro style.

The weather was so cold, so I also rented a long Japanese jacket for kimono. From Gojo→Gion→Yasaka Pagoda→Kiyomizu-zaka, I strolled along the Higashiyama area.
No power with an empty stomach, so I had a lunch at a café “efish” located along the Kamogamo River☆
I ordered a sandwich set, with a cup of soup. The sandwich was “Tuna and avocado with cottage cheese”, and the soup was the daily soup “Chicken herb cream soup”. Both were of good taste, and made me warm!

Warm body with a full stomach, then I headed to the Higashiyama area. While moving, my body started to get warm ♪ Both the Gion and the Yasaka periphery have many attractions! Walking up along the Sannenzaka, there is a shop “まるん (Marun)”, which is famous of its cute sweets. But in fact, that shop is also selling jams and dressing made by Kyoto-grown vegetables, a good choice for souvenir ♪
As for me, I bought some matcha sponge cake, not for souvenir… but for myself. LOL

The voice of staff asking customers to have a try on Yatsuhashi (a traditional sweet of Kyoto), the glossy freshly grilled rice cake, the smell of sweet soy sauce grilled dumplings… There was too much temptation around this area! LOL
Got tired with my legs though, I had a great time with the stroll. Wearing kimono to have a stroll in this old historic city Kyoto should be a way of enjoying Japan, don’t you think so? No only ladies, all gentlemen should also enjoy this experience!
