Small Otabe (= Yatsuhashi), Kids of Otabe - Kotabe
When it comes to one of the most often seen souvenir sweet in Kyoto, it should be those triangular, having various flavours and colours, available in various brands… right, that’s yatsuhashi. “西尾(Nishio)”, “聖護院 (Shougoin)” and “夕子 (Yuuko)” are the most famous brands of yatsuhashi.
Apart from the usual yatsuhashi, I just knew that yatsuhashi has kids! I received a present recently, which was a box of “こたべ (Kotabe)”. I had no idea and did a little search, the name “Kotabe” comes from the idea “small otabe, so it’s kotabe; kid of otabe, so it’s kotabe.”
The box was small with adorable design! That was strawberry flavour, one of the spring limited product. The yatsuhashi inside the box were about half of the size of the usual~ Mouthful size is so nice because it is easier to eat. The strawberry ganache paste was sour-sweet and definitely it’s more strawberry than chocolate feeling. That’s pretty good.
Spring limited products were only available until April, so there are no longer available now. However, there are summer limited products now. Also, there are 4 kinds of regular flavours: cinnamon, matcha, chestnut, sweet potato. I think not only kids will feel happy if they receive the kids of otabe (kotabe), but adults will also like them.
