Are you Team Matchca or Team Hojicha? Soft Serve with Golden Proportions

2014/9/24

All of the sudden September is coming to an end; the mornings and nights are getting cooler, and Autumn is coming over Japan. The number of tourists in Kyoto has increased, making the city livelier and livelier.

When you’re going sightseeing, do you look up places you want to go in guidebooks and on the internet? In my own personal experience, it’s nice to have visited Kyoto, but things always ending up not going as planned, and you don’t get to eat the foods you wanted. You were really looking forward these plans, so when you board the bullet train home, you have a sort of lingering regret. This time, though, I will introduce you to a wonderful shop that will send you home free of such regret and fully satisfied♪

The shop is the Nakamura Tokichi Kyoto store. It’s located in the Suvaco JR Kyoto Isetan department store. The 2nd floor is for take-out only, but the 3rd floor is an eat-in café.

Nakamura Tokichi is famous for its green tea and western sweets such as chocolate, but I recommend their soft serve ice cream sold at their take-out counter!
You get a waffle cone, soft serve ice cream, shiratama (rice flour dumplings), and azuki beans all for an unbelievable 350 yen! Quite the bang for your buck♪

The matcha is subtly sweet and the hojicha is richly fragrant—but together the two flavors don’t contradict one another. The shiratama are soft and chewy. (Even though the shiratama you get with shaved ice and parfaits always seem to harden....) It has just the perfect amount of azuki beans, too; anything more would be two sweet, but anything less would just not be enough. This is it—the golden proportion!

Why don’t you take a break and rest away your travel fatigue with soft serve ice cream that is sure to make a wonderful memory?
